Embraer Opens New Customer Center and Delivers US-Assembled Phenom
Embraer marked the official opening Monday, December 4 of its new U.S. Customer Center at the Melbourne International Airport in Melbourne, Florida, and capped that off with ceremonial delivery of the first Phenom to emerge from its new U.S. assembly facility, also at KMLB. Robert Taylor, CEO of Executive AirShare, took delivery of the Melbourne-assembled Phenom 100.
Florida Governor Rick Scott joined the Economic Development Commission and a host of officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Kansas City-based fractional aircraft provider Executive AirShare was presented with the first U.S.-made Phenom 100. "Executive AirShare is proud of the honor of having the first delivery of an aircraft that Embraer has produced in the United States," said Executive AirShare's Taylor. "Upon delivery of this aircraft, our fleet will grow to 18 Phenom 100s and Phenom 300s, serving the Central U.S. and Great Lakes regions."
The new 58,000-square-foot Customer Center becomes the headquarters for Embraer Executive Jets sales and marketing, and the customer specification center. It is where buyers of any Embraer Executive Jet model including the Phenom 100 and 300 can select colors, fabrics, paint schemes, and options for their aircraft. The facility also will serve as the delivery center for all U.S.-assembled Phenom 100s.
In May 2008 Embraer announced Melbourne as the location for its new 150,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, $50 million executive jets assembly and customer facility. In February 2011 Embraer held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Phase I of the complex -- the 80,000 square-foot production and painting facility.
"With the on-schedule completion of our Customer Center and imminent delivery of the first Phenom 100, Embraer reiterates its commitment to be closer to its customers and to maintain a strong partnership with the state of Florida and the Brevard County community," Frederico Fleury Curado, Embraer President and CEO, said at the ceremony marking completion of the Customer Center.
"The Embraer sales and marketing teams are thrilled to bring the Company's Executive Jets headquarters to Melbourne" said Robert Knebel, Vice President of Sales for North America Embraer Executive Jets. "From this outstanding facility, we will be providing our customers worldwide with the best tools available to select the interiors, paint schemes, and options tailored to their specific needs and tastes."
As the new global headquarters for Embraer's Executive Jets division, the two-story Customer Center will be the center of the customer experience, from sales and aircraft configuration to the final delivery process.
The first floor of the building features an atrium, mockup showroom, a formal dining room, and an event area adjacent to the 17,112 square-foot delivery hangar. The second floor is devoted to fully equipped delivery suites for customers' use. Five design studios are dedicated to the.selection of aircraft interiors using an array of fabrics, wood veneers, metal plating, carpets and leathers, and other options. Flat-screen monitors and rendering software are used to give customers virtual tours of the proposed design of their aircraft.
Partners in the Embraer project include the State of Florida, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida's Space Coast, Melbourne International Airport, Enterprise Florida, the City of Melbourne, and BBVA Compass Bank.

Embraer reports third quarter 2011
In the third quarter 2011 Embraer Executive Aviation delivered a total of 17 light jets and one large jet.
Third Quarter 2011 commercial and executive aircraft revenues reached US$1,363.6 million and gross margin reached 21.2%, as a result of the mix in revenues and products. The firm order backlog increased to US$16 billion, as a result of sales activities in 3Q11, mainly in executive aviation.
Although the US corporate profits indicator, which is an important market driver, has exceeded pre 2009 recession levels, the used aircraft market (price and number of used aircraft for sale) continues to offer some barriers to the executive aviation market recovery.
Furthermore, as a result of the continued challenges observed in the executive aviation segment, the company may not achieve its 2011 revenues projection for this segment. In spite of the current environment, the company is net order positive as of 30 September 2011.
The highlight was the signing, at the beginning of October, of an agreement for the purchase of 13 Legacy 650 jets by China's Minsheng Financial Leasing as the first step to fulfill the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) celebrated in July for up to 20 aircraft.
The assembly of the Phenom 100 at Melbourne, Florida progresses on schedule with the interior installation and painting of the first Phenom 100, the wing mate of the second aircraft and the third aircraft subassemblies already on site in the plant. First flight of US-assembled Phenom 100 is scheduled to occur later this year. The adjoining Embraer customer center (ECC) has been completed and the Occupancy Certificate has been issued. The ECC will be fully functional in December this year.
The Legacy 500 executive jet programme continues to evolve. Three prototypes are currently in production. The wing and fuselage of the first prototype has been mated and systems installation is underway. Landing gear has been installed and electrical power in the aircraft has been turned on. The assembly and installation of the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, cabin door, rudder and elevator assemblies are being concluded. The second prototype's wing trailing edge and ot her structural components and systems are being assembled and the first structural segments of the third prototype are being finished.
Embraer's commitment to world class customer support is highlighted by the Company's expansion of its network of service centers. In August, Embraer announced the appointment of four new authorized service centers in Brazil and an operational expansion plan of its factory-owned service center in Brazil, including new services and certifications, a substantial increase in maintenance equipment, and larger facilities. In the same month, the announcement of a new service center in the Greater China region was made. In October it was disclosed that four new Authorized Service Centers for the Phenom jets in North America will join the Company's global network, achieving more than 55 owned and authorized service centers.

Embraer Partners in Biofuel Research
SÃO PAULO, Brazil, Oct. 26, 2011: Boeing, Embraer, and the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) today announced plans to collaborate on long-term aviation biofuels-related research and development, a move that represents another major step toward the creation of a sustainable aviation biofuels industry in Brazil. Azul, GOL, TAM and Trip airlines will be strategic advisors in the program.
As a result of an agreement signed today, Boeing, Embraer and FAPESP are leading the development of a detailed report outlining the unique opportunities and challenges of creating a cost-effective, bio-derived, and sustainable jet-fuel production and distribution industry in Brazil. When completed in late 2012, the report, which will include a technology and sustainability roadmap, will be made public.
The study will frame the creation of a sustainable aviation biofuels research center in Brazil. This center will be jointly funded by FAPESP and industry in order to drive a long-term research agenda for the development of aviation biofuels technology in Brazil. The mission of the center will be to close the technical, commercial, and sustainability gaps needed to enable the creation of this new aviation fuel supply chain in Brazil.
Brazil already has shown global leadership in developing biofuels for ground transportation, said Donna Hrinak, president of Boeing Brazil. Bringing together people from throughout Brazil who possess the leadership and expertise to create new low-carbon energy sources for aviation is the right thing to do for our industry, for our customers, for Brazil, and for future generations.
Boeing and Embraer are focused on creating sustainable aviation biofuels produced from renewable resources that do not drive food competition in vulnerable regions by competing with land and water resources. Both companies are bringing together agricultural interests, academic researchers, environmental experts, refiners and aerospace companies around the globe to establish local infrastructure needed to develop a sustainable and economically viable biofuels industry.
Since 2008, flight tests conducted by airlines and military operators show that biofuels perform as well as or better than kerosene-based jet fuel.

Embraer Legacy 450 and 500
Embraer’s formal entry into the quasi-midsize market came in 2008 when it announced development of a pair of fly-by-wire aircraft that share the same wings, empennage and cabin cross-section. However, the 500’s fuselage will be approximately six feet longer than that of the shorter-legged 450. Embraer says both aircraft will have a six-foot stand-up cabin with a flat floor, a fully equipped galley and an externally serviced aft lavatory. The 500 is being designed to have a range of 2,800 nm with eight passengers, at Mach 0.80 and NBAA IFR reserves. The 450 is being designed to have a range of 2,300 nm with four passengers at long-range cruise and NBAA IFR reserves. The $18.4 million (2008 $) 500 is expected to enter service in 2013, and the $15.25 million 450 in 2014.
The 500 can be configured to carry up to 12 passengers in a cabin that is near super-midsize, and there is a generous amount of baggage space: 150 cu ft (110 external).
The cabin measures 26 feet, 10 inches long and 6 feet, 10 inches wide. Embraer says several different cabin layouts will be available. Customers can choose between a large forward galley opposite galley annex storage or a single, side-facing seat ideal for a cabin attendant. Or they can have a side-facing, two-place divan opposite a small refreshment center. The wet galley features hot and cold water, four gallons of potable water, crystal storage, an ice drawer, compartments for china and silverware, 110V power outlet, and optional monitor and espresso maker.
Behind that is the two-zone main cabin with seating for eight or nine more passengers.
Possible configurations include two club-four groupings of single seats or a forward club-four followed by a half-club with a three-place, berthing divan on either the right or left side.
Half-club pairs of single seats can be rotated back-to-back and then recline together to form a comfortable sleeping surface. With the seats positioned and folded down in this manner, the 500 provides comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to four passengers. Behind that is the lavatory complete with solid door, vanity, basin and vacuum toilet.
The seats and the cabin tables were revised to better reflect customer tastes after Embraer showed the preliminary cabin mock-up to its customer advisory panel. As on its smaller Phenom jets, Embraer collaborated with BMW DesignworksUSA on styling the 500’s cabin.
The 500 will be equipped with Honeywell’s high-definition, touchscreen Ovation Select cabin management system (CMS). It can interface with high-speed satellite communications and a variety of wired and wireless consumer electronics, including iPods, MP2 players, AppleTV and gaming systems. Cabin altitude will be 6,000 feet at the 500’s maximum cruising altitude of 45,000 feet.
In the cockpit, the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics system features four large, active-matrix LCDs in the panel that connect the pilots with synthetic enhanced vision with an optional head-up display, electronic charts, maps and graphical weather depiction from a MultiScan weather radar.
The 500’s Honeywell HTF7500E engines (6,540 pounds of thrust each) use a package of proprietary technologies that improve fuel burn and reduce the production of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, unburned fuel emissions and smoke.
The 500 is expected to fly in this year’s fourth quarter.

Time has come for a Phenom 200 !
So everyone knows last Monday Cessna announced the Citation M2. I have taught on Citation products for a long time. In being up front and honest I am a big fan of the Mustang. It is VERY similiar to the 100 and I love the plane. I am also a fan of the CJ4. Having flown & taught on the 525 series I think it was the right move. Don't think will we ever see a CJ5.
That being said, I am on record here, that the time has come for Embraer to launch the Phenom 200.
I spoke to approx 20 Mustang owners this week after the Cessna announcement. In all my years in this area of aviation we are in, I have never seen a reaction to a new product as I have witnessed with the M2. Not one Mustang owner/operator said they would want to step up to that plane. Not one!
Then as I inquired about what would be your next Step up, a HondaJet? Most said, they liked the look of the HondaJet, but that range wise, if just didn't make sense either.
Now here is the kicker. A HUGE majority of them said, Phenom 100 is a lateral move, not doing that, Phenom 300 -- out of my price range, but almost all said...
If Embraer offered a Phenom 200, with 1400-1500 NM range, FL430 or FL450, 420-430 on the speed, price point, 4.5-5.1 Million USD, I would step up without question!
I'm in agreement !

The Phenom 300 Market Today
The Phenom 300 is and will remain strong competition for the Cessna Citation CJ4. Priced at $8,500,000 standard configuration, the Phenom is certainly a better value. In addition, it has stronger take-off performance and lower operating cost in comparison with the CJ4
The number of used Phenom 300’s “for sale” on the market has remained consistent over the past year. There are a total of 3 used aircraft “for sale” on the market which is approximately 8% of the entire fleet. In general, this level of market saturation is considered very healthy. The average asking prices for these aircraft are $8,060,000. The average price for “new” aircraft is $8,500,000 (standard configuration). Some valuable options to have on your aircraft include but are not limited to the following; TCASII, Premium Pax Door, and the seventh pax seat. Every owner/operator has a different mission profile and requires options that better suit their needs. However, my research suggests that the options listed above are of definite importance in the used sector.
If you would like to discuss the market in depth or receive a free evaluation of your aircraft, please feel to contact me at your convenience. It would be my pleasure to assist you in better understanding the value of your aircraft.

The Phenom 100 Market Today
The Phenom 100 is the most successful aircraft in its class and continues to outperform its competition in both performance and value. With nearly 275 aircraft in the fleet, the Phenom 100 has put the VLJ products to the test. Due to its success, the market remains strong and individuals around the world are constantly inspired to own this one of a kind bird. With 16 conveniently located maintenance facilities just in the US, it is very easy to have your Phenom serviced.
The number of Phenoms “for sale” on the market has made a slight decline from the beginning of this year, however, the market remains fairly consistent. There are 29 total aircraft “for sale” on the market which is approximately 14% of the fleet. In general, this level of market saturation would not be considered healthy; however, that number includes the new aircraft in production with the manufacturer. The average asking prices for these aircraft are $3,065,200 and there is an average of 3.5 aircraft sold each month.
I believe that the Phenom 100 will continue to stand its ground against competition and the market will remain consistent.

The Legacy 600 Market Today
The Legacy 600 is based off of the Embraer ERJ-145 family. It was introduces to the business jet world in 2000 and has since been a fairly successful against its competition, the Challenger 850, It has more range, higher payload and a more attractive price. With that said, over the past few years the Legacy 600 has dropped in value significantly and more aircraft continue to come to the market leaving us with a 17% market saturation of the entire fleet (180 aircraft). In general, this level of market saturation is not to be considered healthy
The number of Legacy 600s “for sale” on the market have increased from the beginning of this year, including a huge influx August. The lack of demand for these aircraft has resulted in a declining market and with only two aircraft sold in the last 6 months; things do not appear to be getting any better. I believe that with the on-set of the Legacy 450, 500, and 650, the 600 will continue to struggle in the market. In addition, until the number of aircraft “for sale” drops, prices will remain stagnant or continue to decline.
Although it is difficult to predict what the market will do, I can conclude from recent data and trends that the Legacy 600s will remain, at the very least, stagnant through the final quarter of this year.
If you would like to discuss the market in depth or receive a free evaluation of your aircraft, please feel to contact me at your convenience.
